Overview

Our Class 3 Driver Training program equips students with the skills to safely and efficiently operate commercial vehicles. Students build a solid foundation in commercial driving through a comprehensive approach that includes classroom instruction, hands-on practical training, and valuable on-the-job experience gained through paid work placements.

Program Schedule

Weeks 1-3

Students Receive

7.5 days of classroom training

Students gain an understanding of the commercial driving industry.

And

8.5 days of hands-on training

Students gain a general introduction to Class 3 vehicle operation, including pre-trip inspections, shifting, and braking.

Weeks 4-5

Public Road
Training

Students apply their skills on real roads under instructor
supervision to gain a safe, practical, industry-ready driving experience.

Weeks 6-9*

Paid

Graduates are guaranteed an offer of employment with the Municipal Group of Companies upon successful completion of the program.

TUITION: $5000 + HST

PAID WORK PLACEMENT: 4 weeks in the waste collection industry

Admission Requirements

Application Requirements:

To apply to the program, you will need to submit the below documents. Once all documents are received your initial interview will be scheduled.

• Up-to-date resume
• Copy of Driver’s Licence (N must be removed)
• Letter of reference
• Copy of high school diploma or transcript
• Must be 18 years of age or older
• Must be a Permanent Resident of Canada

Enrollment Requirements:

If offered a seat in the program, you will be asked to provide the following documents to complete your enrollment:

• Nova Scotia Driver’s Medical Test
• Driver’s Abstract
• Air Brake Endorsement on your Driver’s Licence
• Proof of successful Class 3 Knowledge Test

Offer of Employment

Upon passing the Nova Scotia Class 3 road test, all graduates of the Dexter Institute Private Career College are guaranteed an offer of employment with the Municipal Group of Companies.
