Utilizing his skills as a Heavy Equipment Operator, Austin is making a smooth transition from construction to snow clearing work. Under the watchful eye of Farley, Austin receives training on a John Deere Tractor with a sidewalk snow clearing attachment.

Safety first! Austin is making sure the sidewalk attachment is properly coupled to the tractor. Did you know that Dexter clears 165 kms of sidewalk in the Bedford and Sackville area?

At the Dexter Institute we pride ourselves on having a state-of-the-art training facility, this includes mock subdivisions. Access to this training environment prepares Austin for the type of work he can expect when on the job clearing snow.

While visiting current students on their work term, we also found a Dexter Institute alumnus – all working on the Bayers Road street renewal project! This Halifax-based job entails widening of the area between Romans Avenue and Micmac Street in order to add dedicated bus lanes.
