Joseph has been keeping busy, spending his work term at a parking garage site in the North End of Halifax! From using the breaker attachment to scaling back walls, to loading trucks and making space for the concrete crew—he’s been sharpening his skills every day.

He’s been learning a lot from his Foreman, Andrew, an experienced Excavator Operator who’s always ready to pass along his knowledge and lend a hand.

“It’s been an awesome experience so far. I know the experience I’m getting is invaluable—and I’m having fun while doing it.”

Breanna has been enjoying her work term at Envirosoil, where she has been doing a little bit of everything—from loading trucks with rock to fixing up the roads. Her favourite part so far? Getting to operate the 980 Loader.

Throughout her work term, Breanna has been developing a stronger understanding of her equipment—especially when it comes to improving her technique with the cutting edge.

The cutting edge is a steel blade attached to the front of the loader bucket, designed to make scraping, digging, and material handling more efficient.

We stopped by to check in on Ishmeal, a current student who’s completing his work term with REgroup!

Ishmeal is gaining valuable hands-on experience operating a side-load truck—driving and collecting waste all in one smooth motion.

From “picking” while standing to navigating neighbourhood routes, he’s getting a feel for what it’s like behind the wheel.

He’s been enjoying the experience and says one of the best parts is working alongside such a great team. Keep it up, Ishmeal!

Ethan has been hard at work on the Cogswell project along Lower Water Street, operating an excavator in some tight and challenging spots.

From trenching and grading to digging near underground utilities and historic properties—with the help of a spotter—he’s taken on a wide variety of tasks.

Ethan has also used a skid steer to move materials, replaced a sewer lid, and helped create a subgrade road.
